TikTok API Pricing in 2026: Research, Display and Posting
What TikTok's APIs cost as of October 2026: the free Research, Display and Content Posting APIs, who is eligible, their limits, and options for commercial public data.
As of October 2026, TikTok does not charge for its developer APIs. The catch is eligibility. The Research API is only for approved non-commercial researchers, at 1,000 requests and up to 100,000 records a day. The Display API only reads creators who log in to your app. The Content Posting API needs an audit before posts can be public. There is no official, paid API for reading arbitrary public TikTok data commercially.
As of October 2026, TikTok does not charge for any of its developer APIs. You will not find a price per call or a paid tier. What you will find is eligibility rules: each API is built for one kind of approved user, and none of them sells broad access to public TikTok data to a commercial team.
This guide covers each official TikTok API, who can use it, its limits, and what to use when none of them fits.
How much does the TikTok API cost?
There are four official APIs worth knowing. TikTok lists no fee for any of them:
| Official API | Price | Who can use it | What it reads or does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Research API | No fee listed | Approved non-commercial researchers, eligible regions | Public videos, accounts, comments, followers |
| Display API | No fee listed | Any approved app, for users who log in | The logged-in creator's profile and videos |
| Content Posting API | No fee listed | Approved apps; audit needed for public posts | Uploads and posts for authorised creators |
| Commercial Content API | No fee listed | Approved applicants | Ads and commercial content in TikTok's library |
So the question is not what TikTok's API costs. It is which of these you qualify for.
Who can use the TikTok Research API?
The Research API is the only official way to query public TikTok data you do not own. It is also the most restricted. As of October 2026, TikTok lists:
- Eligible applicants: academic institutions in the US, EEA, UK, Canada and Switzerland; non-profit research institutions in parts of the EU; and some Brazilian organisations focused on youth safety.
- Non-commercial only: applicants must be independent of commercial interests and research on a not-for-profit basis, in pursuit of a public-interest mission.
- Excluded: creators, advertisers and commercial users.
- Application: a research proposal, ethical review documentation and data security commitments, then approval.
Approved researchers get public data on videos, comments, accounts, follower and following lists, and some TikTok Shop data in the EU.
What are the Research API limits?
TikTok's Research API FAQ sets daily quotas:
| Limit | Quota |
|---|---|
| Standard endpoints | 1,000 requests per day, up to 100,000 records |
| Followers and following | 20,000 calls per day, up to 2 million records |
| Virtual Compute Environment (test) | Up to 5,000 records per day |
| New videos becoming searchable | Up to 48 hours |
| Counts such as views and followers | Up to 10 days to update |
The data lag matters for anything time-sensitive. A trend that peaks over a weekend may not be fully visible in the Research API until the following week.
What does the Display API give you?
The Display API lets a creator log in to your app with TikTok and show their profile and videos elsewhere, for example a portfolio site or an influencer marketplace. It has three endpoints: user info, video list and video query, with the user.info.basic and video.list scopes.
It is not a way to read other accounts. You only see creators who have logged in and authorised your app. Each endpoint is rate limited to 600 requests per minute on a sliding window.
What does the Content Posting API cost?
Nothing in fees, but there is a gate. With the Content Posting API and the video.publish scope, your app can upload and post for creators who authorise it. Until TikTok audits your app:
- Everything it posts is visible only to the creator (private).
- Only a small number of users can post through it in a 24-hour window.
The audit checks your app against TikTok's content sharing guidelines. Even after it, TikTok caps how many creators can post through your app each day based on the usage you declared in the audit form.
What is the Commercial Content API?
The Commercial Content API searches TikTok's library of ads and other commercial content by advertiser or keyword. It returns details such as when an ad ran, its targeting and how many people saw it. Access needs an application, and the library started with ads shown in the EU. It is useful for ad research and transparency work, not for organic videos or comments.
What are the hidden costs of TikTok's APIs?
- Eligibility is the price. If you are a company, the Research API is off the table, and no other official API reads public data you do not own.
- Review time. Every API needs an application. Plan for review before you write production code.
- Data lag. Research data can be up to 48 hours behind for new videos and 10 days behind for counts.
- Narrow scopes. Display and Content Posting only cover users who log in to your app, so a monitoring or analytics product cannot use them to track competitors or trends.
When are TikTok's official APIs the right choice?
- Academic or non-profit research in an eligible region: apply for the Research API.
- Posting or scheduling for creators: use the Content Posting API and budget time for the audit.
- Showing a creator's own videos on your site or marketplace: use the Display API.
- Ad transparency research: use the Commercial Content API.
For these, the official APIs are free and the right route.
What is the alternative for public TikTok data?
If you are a business that needs public profiles, videos, comments or transcripts from accounts that have not logged in to your app, there is no official paid option. A public-data API fills that gap. crawlfeed serves these TikTok reads:

A profile costs 1 credit, with no application and no eligibility review. Responses use the same Profile, Post and Comment shapes as Instagram, X, Reddit and the other 26 platforms, new accounts get 100 free credits, and failed calls are refunded. Pack prices are on the pricing page.
crawlfeed is independent of TikTok and only returns public data. It cannot post, read private accounts or return a creator's private analytics, and it is not a substitute for the Research API's approved status if your institution needs one.
| Need | Official TikTok APIs | crawlfeed |
|---|---|---|
| Post or schedule videos | Yes, after audit | No |
| Public data for commercial use | No official route | Yes |
| Public data for academic research | Research API, if approved | Yes |
| Video transcripts | No | Yes |

The short answer
TikTok's APIs are free as of October 2026, but each one is tied to a specific approved use: research for non-commercial institutions, display and posting for creators who log in, and ad library search for approved applicants. If you are a business that needs public TikTok data at scale, there is no official product to pay for, so compare third-party public-data APIs on coverage, freshness and price per call.
Questions
Is the TikTok API free?
TikTok does not list a fee for the Research API, Display API, Content Posting API or Commercial Content API. What limits you is eligibility: each one is tied to a specific approved use, and none sells general public-data access to commercial teams.
Can businesses use the TikTok Research API?
No. TikTok requires applicants to be independent of commercial interests and to research on a non-commercial, public-interest basis, from an academic or non-profit institution in an eligible region. Creators, advertisers and commercial users are not eligible.
What are the TikTok Research API limits?
TikTok lists 1,000 requests per day, which returns up to 100,000 records per day. The followers and following endpoints allow up to 20,000 calls and 2 million records per day. New videos can take up to 48 hours to become searchable, and counts can take up to 10 days to update.
Can I post to TikTok through the API?
Yes, with the Content Posting API and the video.publish scope, for creators who authorise your app. Until your app passes TikTok's audit, everything it posts is private, and only a handful of users can post through it each day.
How do I get public TikTok data for a commercial product?
There is no official paid route. Teams use third-party public-data APIs such as crawlfeed, which bill per call for public profiles, videos, comments and transcripts. These are independent of TikTok and cannot post or read private accounts.
